Many Flags, One Humanity
Over 16,000 neighbors have been torn from San Diego County since January alone, one in every 200 people. Most have no criminal convictions and many were following legal processes. Instead, they are locked inside a dangerously overcrowded facility in our backyard.
This is happening in our community. In our name. We refuse to look away.
This Flag Day, we are turning outrage into an unstoppable wave of solidarity. We are gathering outside the Otay Mesa Detention Center to send a message so loud the walls won’t be able to contain it. This isn’t a protest, it’s a fierce and joyful act of resistance. Together, we will join hands for a massive, symbolic “levitation” of the center, directing an undeniable force of hope and love straight to those locked inside.
Authoritarianism thrives on silence. We intend to be deafening. Bring your voice, your drums, and your family for music, art, tamales, and a creative space for kids.
Lock arms with us to protect human dignity. See you there!
